Quote of the day
Dec. 26th, 2006 12:56 pmI was reading the May/June 2006 Psychotherapy Networker and came across a quote by Irvin Yalom, a heavy hitter in the psychology/psychiatry field. I think its funny he quotes himself from one of his books, but the quote is excellent.
"The good therapist fights the darkness and seeks illumination. While romantic love is supported by mystery and crumbles upon inspection."
This was in regards to a patient who was fixated on a phone sex relationship, calling one woman for years. In the case study, the patient is actually most helped by another phone sex worker, someone with more ethics than the average worker, new to the job. She bursts his fantasy bubble by laying out some harsh truths. She got fired, but she freed this guy from his mental prison.
