Some reflections on Penguicon
Apr. 19th, 2004 10:00 amHad a great time at Penguicon this weekend. I decided just to stay home after a busy Friday and just relax rather than drive there and back again.
Drove up early Saturday and ran a game of Talisman with 5 other people. It was fun, I got eliminated before the end. Angie and Dave stopped by to say hello, kept running into them all day (always nice to get a hug, ;)
Ran a game of Illuminati at 2pm after a tasty lunch with my beautiful wife. I need to figure out which games attract more women. I like men and had a good time, but I prefer some gender balance. The Bavarian Illuminati won the game, not a big surprise there.
My Magic: The Gathering sealing deck tournie at 6pm was very small, partly due to the shops closing at 6pm, so last minute players couldn't pick up the cards needed. We might have missed a couple players due to having to move the game to a different table completely removed from the other gaming rooms. Poor S was going to bring me a snack and pop but couldn't find me. Sorry hun. Still had two other players, which made for a couple of interesting games. I got in a total of four games with my cobbled deck, and won three of them.
I had to check out the free beer later that night. Got to see some of the amazing costumes that folks were wearing. These are some serious geeks, and I say that in the most respectful and admiring way. The beer was very good, btw.
The only thing that marred my experience is the fat lip some woman gave me when she decided to do a 180 in a doorway and head-butt me, smashing my lip into my teeth. Bloody mess, my lip is still swollen and bruised this morning. She shut down the rest of the evening, I didn't feel like doing anything with blood oozing from my lip.
Didn't attend any events on Sunday, but we had a tasty breakfast over at the same diner we hit for dinner the night before. All in all, a good weekend, well worth the time and money I put into it.
