Reading, musing, making love
Apr. 26th, 2004 10:32 amI'm the type of person who has a low theshold for inactivity. I love being kept busy, whether it's at work or at home. Busy doesn't necessarily mean furious activity, but I like to keep my mind active when my body is on idle.
Had a pretty good weekend. Rented Kill Bill I from Blockbuster for 99 cents thanks to a wonderful co-worker who passed the coupon along with an email. Then we went and saw Kill Bill II on Sunday as a matinee. I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan, I don't like movies with excessive violence or no characters who are sympathetic. Quentin seems to love assassins and shady characters. While these sorts are colorful and add excitement, they are unsympathetic. I still found both movies enjoyable despite the ultra-violence.
Also bought the School of Rock and League of E. Men while renting Bill. I'm a big fan of Jack Black, I love the fact he's kind of chubby and just a little funny looking. He has some of the energy of John Belushi, I'd definitely party with him. The movie was very cool, and had a young actor from S's reporting area.
League wasn't the most critically acclaimed film in the world. I think its flawed, but still very entertaining. I'd edit out the Tom Sawyer character, he's superfluous.
I also got the chance to read Neverwhere over the weekend by Neil Gaiman. I know friends who really love (dare I say worship?) him and was curious. I loved the book, great characters, interesting setting, the end was satisfying in a way many good books are not. Does anyone have access to the BBC series that was made on this concept?
I also did a little yardwork after it stopped raining on Sunday. Put in a little side garden and sowed some old seed that may or may not come up. I was a bit shocked by the number of grubs in the patch of soil. I'm concerned there's something unhealthy about it. Its just an experiment, some spinach, lettuce and basil. No big loss if it doesn't come up, I'll just put in some grass seed.
