GURPS rulebooks obtained, amusement at future date predicted

I am planning a GURPS campaign set in David Brin's Uplift universe.  System is simple, as advertised, and books are well indexed.  I generated a random character that will be one of the villians already.  He's making a guess appearance from Snowcrash, but fits in since he's a water kinda guy.

Which edition of GURPS? Are you using the Uplift sourcebook or are you creating races using the Aliens rules?

3rd Edition. I purchased the Uplift book after learning of its' existence, then decided I needed the supporting books and rules. Like many of these projects, I have big plans, but it remains to be seen if I get this off the ground.
